Los Angeles – Hollywood actress Scarlett Johansson has opened up about the difficulties she faced in relationships with people outside the entertainment industry, revealing that jealousy sometimes became an issue.
In a recent conversation with fellow actor David Harbour for Interview magazine, Johansson reflected on how dating someone who isn’t part of the film or arts world can create misunderstandings.
“I’ve had serious relationships with people who weren’t in the industry,” Johansson said. “One of the challenges was that they had no idea what I needed in order to do my job.”
She added, “Of course, if I were dating an oncologist, I wouldn’t fully understand their job either — but in this case, it’s not so abstract.”
As reported by People magazine, Johansson shares a 3-year-old son, Cosmo, with her current husband, comedian and Saturday Night Live star Colin Jost, and a 10-year-old daughter, Rose, with her ex-husband, French journalist Romain Dauriac.
She went on to explain how actors naturally form close and emotionally intimate bonds with co-stars and colleagues, which can sometimes create insecurity in partners outside the industry.
“It’s easy for jealousy to creep in when the person you're with isn’t part of the industry,” Johansson said. “Actors are often very free-spirited and build deep connections with others at work. They can be totally loyal to their partner while also engaged in emotionally intense professional relationships — and that can blur the lines for some people.”
She also acknowledged the challenge of being a public figure. “Having a relationship with the public can be complicated for someone outside of this world to grasp,” she said.
Before marrying Jost in 2020, Johansson was married to Romain Dauriac from 2014 to 2017, and to actor Ryan Reynolds from 2008 to 2011.
