New Delhi — A major security scare unfolded at the Delhi Legislative Assembly on Monday afternoon after a car broke through a high-security gate and entered the premises, police officials said.
According to Delhi Police, the vehicle — bearing a Uttar Pradesh registration — crashed through Gate No. 2, designated for VVIP movement, around 2 p.m. The car reportedly had several masked individuals inside, raising immediate concern among security personnel.
In a bizarre turn, the driver exited after entering the complex and placed a flower bouquet near the porch area before the situation escalated into a full security alert.
Security forces quickly cordoned off the area, and multiple teams, including the bomb disposal squad and forensic experts, rushed to the spot. A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) has begun examining the site for evidence.
Officials have termed the incident a serious breach, especially given the Assembly’s status as a highly sensitive zone frequented by top government functionaries and legislators.
Authorities are now investigating how the vehicle managed to break past barricades and access a restricted area despite strict security protocols. Efforts are underway to identify the individuals involved and determine their motive.
The incident comes close on the heels of recent bomb threats targeting the Assembly during the Budget Session, further intensifying concerns over security preparedness. In late March, threat emails had claimed that multiple RDX-based explosive devices were planted inside the premises, prompting extensive security checks and investigations.
More details are awaited as the probe continues.
