India Wraps Up Asian Wrestling Championships with Strong Finish

India concluded its campaign at the 2026 Asian Wrestling Championships in Bishkek on a high note, adding two silver medals and a bronze on the final day to take its overall tally to an impressive 17 medals.

The Indian contingent finished with two gold, six silver, and nine bronze medals, securing second place overall, just behind dominant Iran, while Japan settled for third.

In freestyle wrestling, India’s performance stood out with two gold, three silver, and two bronze medals. Meanwhile, the women wrestlers contributed one silver and four bronze medals, reflecting a solid all-round effort across categories.

The final day saw India field two wrestlers in gold medal bouts, but both fell short against strong opponents.

In the 61kg freestyle final, Aman lost a closely fought, high-scoring bout 13-10 to North Korea’s Kwang Myong Kim. Notably, Aman—who won bronze at the Paris Olympics in the 57kg category—was competing in a higher weight class this time.
In the 86kg final, Mukul Dahiya was defeated 0-7 by Iran’s Kamran Ghasempour, adding another silver to India’s tally.

India’s campaign ended on a positive note as Dinesh clinched a bronze in the 125kg freestyle category, delivering a commanding 12-1 victory over Kyrgyzstan’s Arslanbek Turdubekov.

In the team standings, Iran topped the chart with 178 points, followed by India with 162, while Japan finished third with 127 points.

Overall, it was a strong showing by India, highlighting both depth and consistency across weight categories.
