
Bangkok: India’s young boxing talents continued their impressive campaign at the World Boxing Futures Cup 2026 in Bangkok, with Chandrika Pujari, Gunjan, Joyshree Devi and Ambekar Meetei advancing to the finals after impressive semifinal victories on Saturday.
In the women’s 51kg category, Chandrika Pujari produced a strong performance to defeat Rihab Hamdoune of Morocco by Referee Stopped Contest (RSC) in the second round, booking her place in the gold medal bout.
In the women’s 48kg division, Gunjan dominated her semifinal against Yu Gyong Kim of North Korea, securing a 5-0 unanimous decision to reach the final.
Joyshree Devi also delivered a commanding display in the 54kg category, stopping Sofia Ramirez of Mexico via RSC in the first round to move into the title clash.
In the men’s 50kg division, Ambekar Meetei advanced to the final with a convincing 5-0 unanimous decision win over Abdugani Yorkinjonov of Uzbekistan.
Meanwhile, Radhamani Longjam had to settle for a bronze medal after losing a closely fought 2-3 split decision to Yevanhelina Petruk of Ukraine in the 57kg semifinal.
With four Indian boxers now in the finals, the team will look to convert their strong performances into gold medals as the tournament reaches its final stage.
The World Boxing Futures Cup, being held in Bangkok from March 8 to 15, features promising young boxers from around the world competing in Youth Olympic weight categories, offering valuable international exposure to emerging talents.
Earlier, the Indian youth boxing team had already confirmed five medals after impressive quarterfinal wins by Gunjan, Joyshree Devi, Ambekar Meetei, Chandrika Pujari and Radhamani Longjam, all of whom advanced to the semifinals.
