New Delhi — As India gears up to host the World Para Athletics Championships for the first time, the official logo and mascot for the New Delhi 2025 edition were unveiled on Tuesday.
The prestigious event, set to take place from September 27 to October 5, 2025, will bring together over 1,700 athletes from more than 100 countries. With this milestone, India takes its place on the global para-sport stage — not just as a host nation, but as a storyteller, using design and symbolism to celebrate resilience, diversity, and unity.
The official logo for the Championships is a vibrant blend of movement, tradition, and identity. Designed in a circular form symbolising global inclusiveness and constant motion, the logo features a para athlete in a racing wheelchair at its centre — representing strength, speed, and determination.
Surrounding the athlete are iconic symbols of Indian culture: the graceful peacock, the wise elephant, the melodic sitar, and the historic spinning wheel. At the heart of the design stands the Lotus Temple, representing the spirit of New Delhi and India’s legendary hospitality. A lively colour palette — featuring shades of magenta, saffron, and deep blue — reflects the energy, diversity, and vibrancy of both the Championships and the host nation.
The event’s official mascot, Viraaj, has already captured the imagination of many. Viraaj is a young elephant with a prosthetic running blade, symbolising determination and inclusivity. His name, derived from Sanskrit, means “brilliance” or “excellence.”
With his expressive green eyes, confident smile, and athletic outfit featuring the event logo, Viraaj embodies courage, resilience, and the joyful spirit of chasing one’s dreams. Rooted in India’s rich cultural heritage yet designed for a global audience, Viraaj represents every athlete who has defied limits and every child who believes the impossible can be achieved.
Together, the logo and mascot weave a powerful visual narrative, showcasing India’s proud heritage and the essence of para sport — resilience, unity, and the limitless potential of the human spirit.
