New Delhi — The Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) on Tuesday announced the addition of two new men’s teams to the Delhi Premier League (DPL) ahead of its second season, expanding the tournament from six to eight franchises.

The Outer Delhi franchise was secured for ?10.6 crore by a consortium led by Savita Paints Private Limited, while the New Delhi franchise was acquired for ?9.2 crore by a consortium consisting of Bheema Tolling and Traffic Solutions Private Limited and Crayon Advertising Limited.

The two new teams will join the existing franchises — Central Delhi Kings, East Delhi Riders, North Delhi Strikers, Purani Dilli 6, South Delhi Superstarz, and West Delhi Lions — for the 2025 edition of the tournament.

The player auctions for Season 2 will be held in the national capital on July 6 and 7, with the men’s auction on July 6, followed by the women’s auction on July 7.

This year’s men’s auction promises an exciting line-up of players, featuring top names like Rishabh Pant, Ishant Sharma, along with emerging talents such as Priyansh Arya, Ayush Badoni, Harshit Rana, Digvesh Rathi, Himmat Singh, Suyash Sharma, Mayank Yadav, and Anuj Rawat.

DDCA President Rohan Jaitley expressed his enthusiasm for the league’s return, saying, "The Delhi Premier League is not just a tournament; it’s a celebration of Delhi’s rich cricketing heritage. Season 1 showcased exceptional talent, and with this expansion, even more players will get the opportunity to shine.”

“Talents like Priyansh Arya and Digvesh Rathi, who made their mark through the DPL, proved their mettle during IPL 2025, reinforcing the league’s status as a platform for future stars," he added. "We are focused on ensuring the upcoming auctions are smooth and impactful for franchises, players, and fans alike. Season 2 promises to be a landmark moment for the league."

DDCA Vice-President Shikha Kumar highlighted the league's inclusivity, saying, "Every new team strengthens the DPL as a city-wide cricket platform. What excites us most is the growing footprint of the women’s league. By expanding into every corner of Delhi while keeping the women’s tournament at the forefront, we are ensuring young girls see cricket as their game — played equally and celebrated just as passionately."

DDCA Secretary Ashok Sharma added, "Adding two new franchises is a significant step in the DPL’s evolution. The overwhelming interest from prospective owners reflects the league's rising stature. We are confident the new teams will bring fresh identity, energy, and vision, making the tournament more competitive and exciting."

Season 2 of the Delhi Premier League will once again be held at the iconic Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. Match dates and fixtures will be announced following the conclusion of the player auctions.
