C-DOT, IISc Join Hands to Launch Centre of Excellence for 6G, AI and Quantum Telecom Research

New Delhi: The Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) has partnered with the Foundation for Science Innovation and Development (FSID) and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, to establish a Centre of Excellence (CoE) aimed at advancing indigenous telecom research, innovation and commercialisation of next-generation communication technologies.

According to an official statement issued on Thursday, the newly established Centre of Excellence at FSID, IISc Bengaluru, will focus on key areas including wireless communications, quantum technologies, cybersecurity and AI-powered communication systems.

The centre will undertake research in emerging fields such as 5G Advanced and 6G technologies, very large-scale MIMO systems, integrated sensing and communication, AI-native communication networks and devices, as well as quantum and post-quantum communication technologies.

The initiative is expected to strengthen India's indigenous telecom innovation ecosystem by bringing together academic expertise and industry collaboration to drive advanced research and technology development.

Designed as a platform connecting academia and industry, the CoE will promote high-impact research, generate intellectual property, support deep-tech startups and organise workshops, training programmes and academic-industry engagements to build skilled talent in strategic technology domains.

By combining IISc's research excellence with C-DOT's experience in indigenous telecom research and development, the centre aims to accelerate the creation of future-ready communication technologies while encouraging innovation and continuous knowledge exchange.

The Centre of Excellence will also prioritise collaborative research projects and industry partnerships to help transform advanced technologies into commercially viable solutions.

The government said the growing network of C-DOT Centres of Excellence reflects its long-term commitment to strengthening India's innovation ecosystem and enhancing self-reliance in critical telecom technologies.

C-DOT CEO Dr. Rajkumar Upadhyay highlighted India's rapid digital transformation and stressed the importance of developing trusted indigenous communication technologies. The discussions also focused on the transformative potential of 6G and India's expanding role in shaping the future of global telecommunications.
