Sensex Rises 274 Points, Nifty Holds Above 24,300 as Auto Shares Lead Market Gains

Mumbai: Indian stock markets ended higher on Thursday, with benchmark indices posting modest gains despite a largely cautious trading session, as investors kept a close watch on the evolving geopolitical situation in West Asia.

The BSE Sensex climbed 273.55 points, or 0.35 per cent, to close at 77,928.15, while the NSE Nifty50 gained 66.95 points, or 0.28 per cent, to settle at 24,317.15.

Market analysts said the Nifty continues to face a key resistance zone between 24,300 and 24,400. A decisive close above this range could strengthen bullish momentum and open the path towards the next resistance band of 24,500–24,600.

On the downside, experts identified 24,200 as the immediate support level, with the psychologically important 24,000 mark expected to provide stronger support if selling pressure intensifies.

Among the top gainers on the Nifty were Mahindra & Mahindra, Coal India and Eicher Motors, with buying in auto stocks helping the benchmark indices remain in positive territory despite weakness across several sectors.

The broader market, however, lagged behind the benchmark indices. The Nifty MidCap index slipped 0.35 per cent, while the Nifty SmallCap index ended 0.56 per cent lower.

Sector-wise, the Nifty Realty index was the biggest loser of the day, falling around 2 per cent. The Nifty Chemical index also closed in negative territory, underperforming the broader market.

In contrast, gains in the Nifty Auto, Nifty Oil & Gas and Nifty Consumer Durables indices provided support to the overall market and helped offset losses in other sectors.

According to market experts, investors largely stayed on the sidelines throughout the session, keeping trading range-bound as they monitored geopolitical developments in West Asia, resulting in only modest gains for the headline indices.
