Gujarat Science City in Ahmedabad has established itself as one of India's premier destinations for science learning and innovation, attracting more than 1.43 crore visitors since its inception and becoming a favourite among students, researchers, and science enthusiasts.
With world-class attractions ranging from robotics and space science to aquatic life and environmental education, the sprawling science centre has evolved into a major hub for experiential learning over the past two decades.
Established on August 10, 1999, Gujarat Science City received a significant boost during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's tenure as Chief Minister of Gujarat, with extensive efforts directed towards its expansion and modernisation. Today, it stands as a global symbol of knowledge, technology, and scientific curiosity.
Between 2006 and May 2026, over 1.43 crore visitors explored the centre, engaging with science through interactive exhibits, hands-on experiments, and immersive experiences.
Prime Minister Modi has visited the facility on multiple occasions, including during the Nobel Prize Series programme in January 2017 and the Vibrant Gujarat Success Summit in September 2023, where he offered guidance for its continued development as a world-class science destination.
Among the centre's biggest attractions is the Aquatic Gallery, one of India's largest aquariums, featuring 68 tanks, 188 species, and more than 11,600 fish. Its 28-metre-long Shark Tunnel remains a major crowd-puller.
The Astronomy and Space Science Gallery, built around the theme of the Solar System, houses a hybrid planetarium with seating for 172 visitors, while the expansive Robotics Gallery showcases 202 robots across 79 categories, including advanced humanoid robots.
Visitors can also enjoy immersive experiences at the IMAX 3D Theatre and the Multimedia Laser and Fountain Show, which combines water, light, and 3D projection technology to create a spectacular visual display.
Nature enthusiasts are drawn to the 20-acre Nature Park, which includes walking and jogging tracks, a butterfly garden, yoga and chess gardens, and the unique Mist Forest. The Energy Education Park promotes awareness about energy conservation and sustainable resource use.
The Life Science Park offers attractions such as a butterfly park, aviary, river ecosystem displays, and a tissue culture laboratory, while the Hall of Science and Hall of Space allow visitors to conduct experiments and explore scientific concepts through interactive exhibits.
One of the standout experiences is the "Mission to Mars" simulated ride, which gives visitors a thrilling taste of space travel.
With its blend of education, entertainment, and innovation, Gujarat Science City continues to inspire scientific curiosity and remains one of the country's most visited science destinations.
