New Delhi: In a major push towards digital governance, DigiLocker has onboarded 68 electricity distribution companies (DISCOMs) and power departments across India, enabling consumers to access their electricity bills directly through the government's digital document platform.
The integration, announced by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, covers utilities across 35 states and Union Territories, allowing millions of consumers to securely store and retrieve electricity bills through DigiLocker.
According to the ministry, the move will make managing utility documents easier by providing instant access to digitally verified electricity bills without the need to maintain physical copies, search through emails, or visit utility offices.
Among the major utilities now linked with DigiLocker are Dakshinanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited, Madhyanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited, Paschimanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited, Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited, Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam, Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited, BSES Rajdhani Power Limited, BSES Yamuna Power Limited, Chandigarh Power Distribution Limited and Noida Power Company Limited.
The participating organisations include state-run distribution companies, municipal power departments and private electricity utilities, collectively serving a vast consumer base across the country.
Officials said the onboarding marks another significant milestone in DigiLocker’s mission to provide citizens with seamless access to essential government and utility-issued documents through a secure digital ecosystem.
With electricity bills now available on the platform, consumers can access authenticated, issuer-sourced documents anytime and anywhere, helping simplify service delivery while promoting paperless governance under the Digital India initiative.
