Seoul: Samsung Electronics on Monday announced a major update that brings compatibility between its Android-based Quick Share platform and AirDrop, enabling seamless file transfers between Galaxy smartphones and iPhones.
The feature is rolling out first to users of the Samsung Galaxy S26 series, allowing them to share photos, videos, contacts, and other files with devices running iOS. Previously, Quick Share and AirDrop operated independently despite both relying on Bluetooth to detect nearby devices and transfer data.
Samsung said the interoperability will initially remain limited to the Galaxy S26 lineup, with plans to expand support to other devices in the future. The feature will also be introduced in key global markets, including the United States and Europe, starting Wednesday.
The company stated that the move is aimed at improving user convenience by enabling smoother communication and file sharing across different operating systems.
In a separate development, Samsung also unveiled a new Car-to-Home service in partnership with Hyundai Motor Group. The feature integrates with Samsung’s SmartThings platform, allowing users to control home appliances directly from their car’s infotainment system.
With this service, drivers can activate appliances such as air conditioners, air purifiers, and robot vacuum cleaners while on the move. For instance, a “home mode” can turn on lights and cooling systems as the user approaches home, while an “away mode” switches off unused devices and activates cleaning functions.
The service is currently available in select Hyundai and Kia vehicles manufactured after November 2022 that support connected car infotainment systems, with further expansion planned through software updates.
