New Delhi: Google on Wednesday rolled out a new Artificial Intelligence-driven photo editing feature for users in India, enabling them to modify images in Google Photos using simple voice or text commands.
With this update, users can edit photos by describing the changes they want. Announcing the launch in a blog post, Google said, “Now in India! Edit your images in Google Photos by simply asking. With advanced Gemini capabilities, Photos helps bring your vision to life.”
To use the feature, users need to open a photo in Google Photos and tap on the “Help me edit” option.
The tool allows users to request specific edits, such as removing a friend’s sunglasses, opening their eyes, or making them smile. Google explained that the feature leverages images from private face groups to deliver accurate and personalised edits.
The AI-powered editing feature is available in multiple Indian languages, including English, Hindi, Tamil, Marathi, Telugu, Bengali, and Gujarati. It works on Android devices with at least 4GB RAM and running Android 8.0 or higher.
Alongside this, Google has introduced three additional features in Google Photos — conversational editing, personalised edits, and Nano Banana.
Conversational editing allows users to seamlessly switch between tools by simply describing adjustments like “make the background blurry,” “remove the glare,” or “enhance the colours.”
Personalised edits enable users to ask Gemini to perform changes such as “remove [name’s] sunglasses” or “make [name] smile,” with the AI using private face group data to generate precise results.
The Nano Banana feature lets users apply creative transformations by describing a new style, allowing images to be reimagined within seconds.
To promote transparency in AI-generated content, Google is also adding support for C2PA Content Credentials in Google Photos. This feature attaches a permanent digital label to edited images, detailing their origin and edit history.
