New Delhi- An Air India flight from Delhi to Indore made an emergency return to the national capital on Sunday morning after the pilot received a fire alert from one of the engines.
The A320 neo aircraft, operating as flight AI2913, landed safely at Indira Gandhi International Airport around 6:15 am with more than 90 passengers on board.
According to Air India, the cockpit crew detected a fire indication in the right engine shortly after take-off. Following standard safety procedures, the crew shut down the affected engine and diverted the aircraft back to Delhi. All passengers and crew members were reported safe.
“The aircraft has been grounded for inspection, and passengers are being accommodated on another plane to complete their journey to Indore,” the airline said in a statement.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has been notified of the incident. An Air India spokesperson said: “We regret the inconvenience caused to passengers. At Air India, passenger and crew safety is our top priority.”
In recent weeks, a few Air India flights have reported technical issues, though the airline has stressed that safety remains its foremost concern.
