New Delhi: Marking the 79th Independence Day, the government has introduced a FASTag-based annual toll pass for private vehicles, priced at ?3,000.
Available for cars, jeeps, and vans registered for personal use, the pass can be used at toll plazas operated by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). It is valid for one year from activation or 200 toll trips — whichever comes first. After the limit is reached, the FASTag reverts to standard pay-per-trip mode.
The pass does not apply to state highways unless integrated into the central FASTag network. To buy it, vehicle owners must have an active FASTag linked to their registration number, with purchase available via the Rajmarg Yatra app, NHAI/MoRTH websites, or authorised FASTag portals. Payment must be made through UPI, cards, or net banking — FASTag wallet balances are not accepted.
According to the government, the average annual cost for 200 trips without the pass is around ?10,000, making the annual pass a potential saving of about ?7,000 for frequent highway travellers.
