30 Nepalese Prisoners Caught in Bihar, UP, Bengal; Border Security Tightened

New Delhi- The Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) has apprehended at least 30 escaped Nepalese prisoners in different locations near the Indo-Nepal border and heightened security to prevent further infiltration attempts.

Taking advantage of violent protests and unrest in Nepal, the fugitives attempted to cross into Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, both of which share borders with the Himalayan nation.

According to officials, 17 escapees were caught in Uttar Pradesh, while 13 were nabbed in Bihar and West Bengal combined. Five of these arrests took place on Wednesday evening. SSB personnel also conducted overnight patrols to secure the border.

In Bihar, police and SSB teams carried out joint patrols in West Champaran, East Champaran, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Supaul, Araria, and Kishanganj — all border districts that are now on high alert.

Chief Secretary Pratyaya Amrit held a video conference with Superintendents of Police and District Magistrates of these districts, alongside DGP Vinay Kumar, to finalise a strategy to counter infiltration threats.

Meanwhile, central agencies have issued a security alert along the India-Nepal border, and state governments have been instructed to reinforce vigilance.

On the other hand, operations have resumed at Nepal’s Tribhuvan International Airport, bringing relief to Indian nationals stranded amid the ongoing unrest. The Ministry of Civil Aviation has directed Air India and IndiGo to run additional flights over the coming days to expedite evacuations.
