In last 150 days Maoist set 46 vehicles on fire

Ranchi: In the last 150 days over the demand of levy and to create terror the various extremist outfits active in the state have set on fire 46 vehicles and machines in the state.

All the 46 vehicles and machines which have been set on fire by the Maoists were either involved in road construction or in coal projects. These incidents of arson have caused losses worth crores to the companies involved in development works and not only the workers were terrorized but the development schemes remained pending for many days. In this period the maximum number of 24 vehicles were burnt in Latehar.

These outfits which are active in different areas of the districts target companies which are involved in construction work and if the data from the year 2000 is taken into account then the number of vehicles that have been set on fire by the Maoists can reach into thousands.

In the last days eight days the ultras have set 8 vehicles on fire whereas recently in Ranchi district the cadre of PLFI opened fire on workers of LNT company apart from that they also set a tractor on fire.

On October 29th the ultras set on fire 6 vehicles in Hazaribagh while two days later hyva was set on fire in Ramgarh.

As part of their modus-operandi ultras demand levy from companies that are involved in the mining of iron ore coal and bauxite or construction firms that are undertaking the construction of roads bridges culverts rural electrification and irrigation projects in far-flung areas of the state.

Since in most of cases after setting the vehicles on fire the ultras flee from the spot, therefore, they are able to evade police arrest and even there is no concrete evidence or eyewitnesses against them.
