Ranchi: The Jharkhand government is preparing a new language education policy aimed at bringing the state's local and tribal languages into school classrooms, with a particular focus on mother-tongue-based learning at the primary level.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren reviewed the draft of the proposed Jharkhand State Language Education Policy during a high-level meeting at Project Building, the state secretariat in Ranchi, on Wednesday.
The draft, being prepared by the School Education and Literacy Department, was discussed in detail with officials. Soren stressed that the policy should reflect Jharkhand's linguistic and cultural diversity and ensure that children's mother tongues receive due importance in primary education.
The government's objective is to give children an opportunity to learn in their local and tribal languages, helping them understand lessons more effectively and strengthening their learning abilities. The initiative is also intended to preserve the state's rich linguistic heritage and cultural identity.
The meeting also examined various aspects of the proposed policy, including arrangements for its effective and transparent implementation. The Chief Minister issued necessary directions to the officials concerned.
The policy is currently at the draft stage. Details of how mother-tongue-based education will be introduced in schools across the state will become clearer once the policy is finalised.
