The Chamber of Commerce, Gumla, discussed several measures to address traders’ concerns, including organising camps involving the Labour Department and the Weights and Measures Department after Chhath Puja. The decisions were taken at the organisation’s eighth monthly meeting, held at Vinayak Hotel near the bus stand under the chairmanship of chamber president Rajesh Lohani.
The meeting focused on issues affecting local businesses, market management and the chamber’s upcoming activities. Members also emphasised the need for collective action to safeguard traders’ interests and ensure that their grievances are effectively communicated to the concerned authorities.
During the meeting, Damodar Kasera, regional vice-president for the South Chotanagpur division of the Federation of Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FJCCI), was felicitated by the Gumla chamber with a bouquet and a shawl.

After being felicitated, Kasera thanked the chamber’s office-bearers and members for the honour. He said he would strive to discharge the responsibilities entrusted to him by the federation with sincerity and integrity.
He emphasised the importance of understanding traders’ problems and taking effective steps towards resolving them. He also called for cooperation among members to strengthen the organisation’s efforts to protect business interests.
Departmental camps planned after Chhath Puja
One of the key issues discussed was the proposal to coordinate with officials of the Labour Department and the Weights and Measures Department to organise special camps after Chhath Puja. The initiative is intended to make it easier for traders to raise and resolve matters related to these departments.
The chamber also decided to submit an application to the relevant administrative authorities seeking appropriate no-entry arrangements during Diwali and Chhath Puja. The move is aimed at managing the increased traffic and crowds in market areas during the festive season and facilitating smoother movement for shoppers and traders.
Another issue raised at the meeting was the use of one-rupee coins in commercial transactions. Members appealed to traders to encourage their acceptance to reduce difficulties in handling small-value payments.
The chamber also urged all members to participate actively in its regular monthly meetings and contribute to its activities. Speakers stressed that a strong and engaged organisation was essential for raising traders’ concerns effectively before government departments and administrative authorities.

Those present included former FJCCI regional vice-president Ramesh Kumar Chini, former chamber presidents Dinesh Agrawal and Padam Sabu, Pawan Kumar Agrawal, Vinod Kesari and Himanshu Kesari.

Executive committee members Munnilal Sahu, Aditya Gupta, Gurmeet Singh and Amit Mantri, also known as Golu, were present.
Subcommittee members Shivam Jaiswal, Gaurav Kesari, Dinesh Prasad, Roopak Kumar and Sandeep Kumar also attended the meeting.
The chamber said continued coordination among traders, the organisation and government departments would be important in addressing local business concerns and improving market management, particularly during the busy festive period.
