In Ranchi, Devendra Nath Mahato, central senior vice-president of the Jharkhand Loktantrik Krantikari Morcha (JLKM) and a seasoned activist, met the Governor on Wednesday to press for the revival of the 7/3 NCC unit at PPK College in Bundu. He submitted a memorandum urging the Governor to lift the suspension and ensure the unit's regular operation, arguing that shutting down a programme that has run for four decades would directly harm students' futures and limit their opportunities.

Mahato stressed that the matter is not confined to a single college. Students from Bundu, Tamar, Silli, Rahe, Sonahatu, and surrounding rural areas all depend on this unit. Most of them come from farming, labouring, and economically weaker families, for whom NCC is a vital channel for building discipline, leadership, confidence, and a spirit of national service. With opportunities already scarce in rural areas, losing a unit that has served for more than four decades is a deeply unfortunate turn.

He alleged that negligence by the college management led to the current situation and demanded an impartial inquiry to fix responsibility, so that students are not made to bear the cost of institutional failures.

The Governor, according to Mahato, took note of the matter and assured that letters would be written to the concerned department and university. Mahato expressed hope that this intervention would lead to concrete steps toward restarting the unit.

A five-member delegation accompanied Mahato during the meeting, including Giridhar Mahato, Kumari Varsha Rani, Durga Mani Kumari, and Prachi Kumari, all of whom echoed the demand for the unit's revival.

Mahato made clear that students' futures should not be sacrificed to administrative disputes or institutional carelessness. He said efforts to restart the NCC unit will continue, and if proper action is not taken, the next course of action will be decided democratically after consulting students and their parents.
