The Confederation of Free Trade Unions of India (CFTUI) organised a one-day training programme for leaders of various trade unions in Jharkhand, focusing on organisational development, leadership skills and issues affecting workers.
Trade union representatives from different districts and sectors across the state participated in the programme. The session was aimed at strengthening trade union activities at the grassroots level and improving the ability of worker representatives to raise labour-related concerns before the appropriate authorities and forums.
CFTUI National Technical Coordinator Suresh Prasad and National Treasurer Ajit Mishra conducted the training sessions. They discussed organisational functioning, leadership development, ways to strengthen unions among workers and strategies for effectively highlighting workers' grievances.
The national office-bearers also provided guidance on expanding CFTUI's organisational presence across Jharkhand and increasing participation among workers from different sectors.
CFTUI state vice-president Jumman Khan presented an overview of the organisation's activities and achievements in the state. He highlighted efforts to expand the organisation, bring workers from different sectors into its fold and take up their concerns on relevant platforms.
The programme also included a detailed discussion on issues concerning workers and employees associated with Heavy Engineering Corporation (HEC), Ranchi. Participants discussed the current situation of HEC, employment-related concerns, workplace issues and the role of trade unions in safeguarding workers' interests.
National and state-level CFTUI representatives stressed the need for worker-related issues to be organised and presented effectively before the appropriate authorities and forums.
The programme was attended by CFTUI Jharkhand president Santosh Kumar Singh, state vice-president Jumman Khan, state coordinators Mrigendra Singh, Bablu Singh and Manju Devi, state secretaries Shailesh Nand Tiwari and Jitendra Srivastava, state assistant coordinator Harendra Singh Kushwaha and South Chotanagpur division vice-president Razak Baksh, among other office-bearers.
Several trade union leaders from different districts and sectors also participated, including Sarita Devi, Anita Singh, Jeet Mandal, Shivakant Pandey, Pawan Singh, Brajesh Pandey, Anuyam Shukla, Rohit Lohra, Dharmendra Manjhi, Krishna Verma, Ganesh Kumar, Prakash Kumar, Sheela Devi, Neelam Gupta and Lagni Devi.
The organisers said particular emphasis was placed on strengthening trade unions at the grassroots, enrolling more workers, maintaining regular contact with members and ensuring that organisational activities are carried out in a systematic and effective manner.
