Two young athletes from Deoghar, Utsav Anand and Sudhanshu Kumar, have been selected to represent the district at the 51st National Yoga Championship in Jaipur.
The championship is being organised by the Yoga Federation of India. The two players left for Jaipur after securing gold medals in district and state-level competitions, which earned them places at the national event.
Both athletes have been undergoing regular training at Sharda Agro Academy and qualified for the national championship based on their performances in previous competitions.
Utsav Anand is a student of DAV, while Sudhanshu Kumar studies at Eklavya Education. Their consistent practice, discipline and performances at successive levels have helped them progress from district competitions to the national stage.
District Olympic Association president Dr Sunil Khaware congratulated the two athletes and said their progress reflected the importance of sustained hard work, discipline and regular practice.
He said Deoghar has considerable sporting talent and has produced athletes capable of competing at national and international levels. According to him, improved training infrastructure, better facilities and greater exposure to competitive events could provide young athletes with more opportunities to develop their potential.
District Sports Authority secretary Ashish Jha, Yoga Association president Ritesh Kesari, secretary Biplab Biswas, Pankaj Bhalotia, Mohit Kesari, Naveen Sharma, Sachin and Vikram Chaudhary, among others, extended their best wishes to the athletes before their departure for Jaipur.
Eklavya Education director Kunal Kumar was also present and credited the achievement to the players' regular training and commitment.
The selection of Utsav and Sudhanshu for the national championship has provided an encouraging boost to yoga and sports activities among young people in Deoghar, while also highlighting the potential of athletes from the district.
