Jharkhand eyes GCCs, AI and semiconductor investments as Hemant Soren meets RMZ chief

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Monday met RMZ Infrastructure Chairman Deepak Chhabria to discuss investment opportunities in the state and the scope for expanding into emerging technology-driven sectors.

The meeting focused on the possibility of setting up Global Capability Centres (GCCs) in Jharkhand and attracting investments in areas such as information technology, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, nuclear energy and advanced manufacturing.

The discussions assume significance as Jharkhand looks to broaden its industrial base beyond traditional sectors and attract investments linked to technology and emerging industries. The state has also been pursuing investment proposals in areas including digital infrastructure, manufacturing and energy.

During the meeting, Soren said Jharkhand's young population has considerable potential and needs greater access to opportunities in sectors that are expected to shape the future economy.

He said the state government would continue engaging with investors to facilitate investments that can create new employment opportunities while also helping develop technological capabilities within Jharkhand.

The Chief Minister also emphasised that greater activity in future-oriented technologies could strengthen Jharkhand's contribution to India's economic and industrial growth.

RMZ has been expanding its focus on data centres, artificial intelligence infrastructure and commercial real estate. The company said in April 2026 that it planned to deploy $35 billion across data centres, AI infrastructure and commercial real estate, highlighting the growing convergence between real estate and technology infrastructure.

For Jharkhand, attracting investments in GCCs, AI, semiconductor-related activities and advanced manufacturing could potentially diversify the state's industrial ecosystem while creating demand for skilled professionals and technology-linked services.
