IAS officer Vinay Choubey returns to government service after suspension revoked

IAS officer Vinay Choubey, who was arrested in connection with the alleged liquor scam in Jharkhand, has returned to government service after the state government revoked his suspension.

Following the end of his suspension, Choubey reported for duty at the Personnel, Administrative Reforms and Rajbhasha Department. His return marks a fresh phase in his service after his arrest and subsequent release on bail in cases linked to the alleged irregularities.

Choubey was suspended by the Jharkhand government after the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) initiated action in the liquor scam case. Investigators had accused him of allegedly conspiring with manpower-supplying companies, resulting in financial loss to the state government. He was arrested in connection with the case and subsequently remained in custody.

Two additional cases were later registered against the IAS officer. These allegations involved the alleged misuse of official influence to facilitate irregular mutation of land in the names of people close to him.

Choubey was subsequently granted bail by the court in those cases and was released from jail.

With the state government now revoking his suspension, Choubey has formally resumed his duties. His return to the department, however, comes against the backdrop of the ongoing legal proceedings and allegations in the cases registered against him.

The lifting of the suspension allows him to resume government service, but it does not by itself amount to a judicial clearance of the allegations. The legal proceedings in the cases will continue independently.
