Dhanbad ACB Catches Giridih Cyber Police SI Taking Rs 30,000 Bribe

The Dhanbad unit of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday arrested a sub-inspector posted at Giridih Cyber Police Station for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000. The officer, identified as Punit Kumar Gautam, was caught red-handed during a trap operation conducted on the basis of a complaint.

According to information, complainant Jeevlal Mandal approached the ACB alleging that Gautam had demanded Rs 30,000 in exchange for forwarding the case diary related to Cyber Police Station Case No. 24/26 to the court. Unwilling to pay the bribe, Mandal reported the matter to the anti-corruption agency.

Following the complaint, ACB officials discreetly verified the allegations. After the verification confirmed the alleged demand for illegal gratification, the bureau planned a trap and constituted a special team to catch the officer in the act.

Rs 30,000 Bribe Leads to Arrest

As part of the trap, the complainant met the sub-inspector on Wednesday and handed over the agreed amount of Rs 30,000. As soon as the transaction took place, the ACB team, which was waiting nearby, moved in and arrested Gautam on the spot.

Following the arrest, the ACB team took the accused officer into custody for questioning. Further legal proceedings are underway.

The action has caused a stir within the police department, as the accused officer was posted at the Cyber Police Station and the alleged bribe was reportedly sought in connection with a case under investigation.

The ACB is also expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the demand and payment and determine whether any other persons were involved in the alleged bribery case.
