Food Safety Department launches major crackdown in Gumla, raids several establishments

The Food Safety Department has stepped up its drive against the sale of adulterated and substandard food products in Gumla, conducting surprise inspections at several commercial establishments in the urban area on Tuesday.

The intensive inspection campaign was carried out in accordance with directions issued by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), New Delhi. The joint operation was undertaken following orders from the Joint Food Safety Commissioner of the Jharkhand government, the Gumla Deputy Commissioner and the Designated Officer-cum-Additional Chief Medical Officer.

The inspection team was jointly led by Food Safety Officers Prakash Chandra Guggi, Kumar Prabhakar and Asha Raj.

The team conducted detailed inspections at several prominent establishments, including Amul Shaurya Cream Parlour on DSP Road, Vishal Bhandar on DSP Road, Maa Bhagwati Traders on Palkot Road and Anoop Traders on Sisai Road.

During the inspection at Anoop Traders, officials found non-standard energy drinks, including Monster and Predator, being stored in violation of applicable regulations. Taking immediate cognisance of the matter, the officials directed the shop operator to remove the entire stock without delay.

The inspection team also issued a strict warning to traders against selling expired or prohibited food products. Shopkeepers were instructed to maintain proper hygiene and sanitation standards and to prominently display their valid food safety licences at their establishments.

Officials indicated that such inspections are aimed at ensuring compliance with food safety regulations and protecting consumers from potentially unsafe, adulterated or non-compliant products. The department is expected to continue such checks to ensure that food businesses operating in the district adhere to prescribed safety and quality standards.
