Seven Arrested for Alleged Brown Sugar Trade Near Passenger Shed

Mohanpur police arrested seven people on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, for their alleged involvement in the buying and selling of brown sugar near a passenger shed in the Jamuniya forest area. Police recovered 17.05 grams of brown sugar and ?1,04,990 in cash from the accused.

According to police, Deoghar Superintendent of Police received confidential information that a group of people had assembled near the Jamuniya passenger shed to allegedly conduct a brown sugar deal. Acting on the tip-off, a police team was formed under the leadership of the Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Sadar, Deoghar.

The team raided the passenger shed and apprehended seven people allegedly involved in the illegal drug trade.

The arrested accused have been identified as 50-year-old Hari Mandal alias Harihar Mandal of Ghuthiabada Asahna, 24-year-old Gautam Jha of Chakarma, 22-year-old Rahul Kumar of Hindolavaran, 21-year-old Deepu Yadav of Hindolavaran, 25-year-old Lakhan Marandi of Ghuthiabada Asahna, 30-year-old Randhir Yadav of Chaupa and 21-year-old Vikas Kumar of Dhabi.

Criminal cases linked to one accused

Police said a criminal record has also been found against one of the arrested persons. The cases include Kund? police station case no. 85/2025, registered on April 20, 2025, under Sections 109(1) and 308(5) of the BNS, 2023, along with Section 27 of the Arms Act.

The accused is also linked to Mohanpur police station case no. 06/2026, registered on January 10, 2026, under Section 21(b) of the NDPS Act.

The police team involved in the operation included Sadar Sub-Divisional Police Officer Kuldeep Kumar, Mohanpur police station in-charge Sandeep Krishna, Assistant Sub-Inspector Rakesh Kumar Ranj, constables Ram Kumar Sah and Laxman Gop, along with reserve personnel from Mohanpur police station and available village chowkidars.

Police said further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the brown sugar and determine whether the arrested suspects are linked to a larger drug distribution network.
