Traffic Restrictions Announced in Ranchi for Krishna Janmashtami Celebrations

Traffic movement across several parts of Ranchi will be restricted on September 4 and 5 in view of the Shri Krishna Janmashtami 2026 celebrations, with the traffic police announcing diversions and restrictions to manage the expected rush during the festivities.

According to a notice issued by the office of the Superintendent of Traffic, a tableau procession is scheduled for September 4, while a devotional music programme and Dahi Handi competition are planned for September 5. The events are expected to draw large crowds, particularly around central Ranchi.

Traffic movement is likely to be affected on several important stretches, including Ratan P.P.O., Ullah House, Urdu Library Cutting, Kali Mandir Chowk, Sarjana Chowk, Sadar Hospital Gate, Mission Chowk, Plaza Chowk, Satellite Hospital Cutting and Firayalal Chowk.

Heavy goods vehicles to remain off city roads

The movement of heavy goods vehicles will be prohibited in the city from 6 a.m. to midnight on both September 4 and 5.

Such vehicles will have to use the Ring Road to reach their respective destinations. The existing scheduled timings for the city's regular no-entry restrictions will remain unchanged.

Restrictions on several key routes

Traffic restrictions will also be imposed on a number of routes during the specified period.

Movement of small and large goods vehicles, autos, e-rickshaws and passenger vehicles will be restricted on the following stretches:

* Firayalal Chowk to Sujata Chowk
* Plaza Chowk to Firayalal Chowk
* Jail Chowk to Firayalal Chowk
* Mission Chowk to Sarjana Chowk
* Ratan P.P.O. towards Firayalal Chowk

In addition, vehicles travelling from Karbala Chowk towards Kali Mandir and Ullah House will not be allowed to enter the route from 3 p.m. until the conclusion of the programme.

Police may impose additional diversions

The traffic police have said that additional restrictions or diversions may be introduced on other roads depending on the crowd and traffic situation.

Residents have been advised to plan their journeys in advance and avoid the affected areas wherever possible. The traffic police have also appealed to people to use four-wheelers only when necessary during the celebrations, as increased vehicle movement could lead to congestion on alternative routes as well.

Commuters travelling through central Ranchi on September 4 and 5 are therefore likely to face delays, particularly during the procession and evening programmes. People heading towards hospitals, markets and other busy areas have been advised to keep additional travel time in hand.
