The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday arrested an accounts officer for allegedly accepting a bribe of ?19,500 at the Regional Accounts Office in Doranda, Ranchi. Two other accounts officers were also detained for questioning during the operation.
The CBI team reached the office located near the AG Office following a complaint and reportedly laid a trap to catch the official accepting the alleged bribe. The accounts officer was subsequently caught while allegedly receiving the money.
Following the arrest, the investigating team detained two more accounts officers present at the office and began questioning them to determine whether they had any connection with the alleged bribery or had information about the transaction.
Preliminary information suggests that the officers detained during the operation work under an accounts in-charge. The complaint reportedly alleged that officials were demanding money for processing or clearing bills. Acting on the information, the CBI planned the operation and caught one of the officials allegedly accepting the payment.
The agency continued its operation at the office and examined documents and official records related to the case. Investigators are also questioning the concerned officials and looking into whether the alleged bribery was an isolated incident or part of a wider arrangement.
The CBI is expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged payment and examine the possible role of other individuals. Further details about the case and any additional action are likely to emerge after the investigation and questioning are completed.
