60-Day Mega Legal Awareness Campaign Begins in Gumla to Take NALSA Schemes to People

A 60-day mega legal awareness campaign aimed at taking the schemes and services of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) to people at the grassroots level began in Gumla district on Tuesday.

The campaign was launched at Baghima Panchayat under Palkot block in accordance with the directions of NALSA and Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority (JHALSA). The programme was organised on the orders of Principal District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Gumla, Ajit Kumar Singh, and under the guidance of the DLSA Secretary.

During the programme, people were informed about various NALSA schemes, including the DON, Jagruti, Samvad, LSUC, Veer Parivar Sahayata Yojana and education-related schemes. The objective was to make people aware of their legal rights and the assistance available to them through the legal services system.

Panchayat Mukhiya Jospheen Tete delivered the welcome address and briefed participants about various development and welfare schemes being implemented in the panchayat.

Member of the Permanent Lok Adalat Shambhu Singh said the District Legal Services Authority acts as an important link between the public and the administration and remains committed to helping people in need.

He elaborated on various NALSA schemes and also spoke about major social issues affecting the area, including witch-hunting, child marriage, human trafficking, education and substance abuse.

Singh expressed concern over the increasing incidence of substance abuse among children, saying that youngsters are also falling victim to addiction along with adults. He urged parents to keep a close watch on their children and take timely steps to prevent them from falling into the trap of substance abuse.

D.N. Ohdar, chief of the Legal Aid Defence Counsel, also explained various NALSA schemes to the participants. He spoke about free legal assistance, the Veer Parivar Sahayata Yojana and legal support for victims affected by human-wildlife conflict.

Ohdar said that if a person is lodged in jail and belongs to a financially weak family, the Legal Aid Defence Counsel can provide assistance to ensure access to legal representation. He also explained the scheme related to comprehensive inclusion, knowledge and assistance and access to school education.

The programme also provided an opportunity for villagers to discuss legal and social issues affecting their community. Officials encouraged residents to seek legal assistance whenever they face a legal problem and to make use of the services available through the DLSA.

Gram Pradhan Sawna Pahan, Deputy Mukhiya Ajay Kindo, DLSA representatives Prakash Pandey and Manish, Para-Legal Volunteers Raju Sahu and Bina Kumari, along with several villagers, attended the programme.

The 60-day campaign will be conducted in different parts of the district to increase awareness about legal rights, free legal services and various welfare schemes being implemented under NALSA.
