‘Viksit Bharat Yuva Connect – Sports Edition’ to Be Held in Gumla on August 27

To mark National Sports Day, the ‘Viksit Bharat Yuva Connect – Sports Edition’ programme will be organised in Gumla district on August 27, 2026. The initiative is being organised under the aegis of Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat) and the National Service Scheme (NSS), Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.

The programme will be held at two colleges in the district — K.O. College, Gumla, and Param Vir Albert Ekka Memorial College, Chainpur.

National Sports Day is observed every year on August 29 to commemorate the birth anniversary of legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand. The ‘Viksit Bharat Yuva Connect – Sports Edition’ aims to encourage a sporting spirit among young people and promote greater youth participation and awareness about their role in nation-building.

The programme will bring together young people, sportspersons, students, youth leaders and volunteers on a common platform. Discussions will focus on the transformation of sports infrastructure in the country, the expanding reach of different sporting disciplines and the emerging sports ecosystem in India.

As part of the August 27 programme, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s virtual address will be broadcast at around 1,600 locations across the country and is expected to reach more than 8 lakh young people. The initiative will provide youth and students from different parts of the country an opportunity to connect through a common national platform.

In Gumla, the presence of guests and participants at both venues will be ensured by 10 a.m. Following the Prime Minister’s address, a local youth interaction session will be organised.

During the session, MY Bharat volunteers and local sportspersons will exchange views on sports, youth participation and nation-building. A youth dialogue of around 15 minutes will also be held towards the conclusion of the programme, giving participants an opportunity to share their ideas, suggestions and aspirations.

MY Bharat, Gumla, has appealed to young people across the district to participate in the programme in large numbers. The organisers said greater youth participation would help spread the message of sports development, youth engagement and nation-building associated with the National Sports Day initiative.
