The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) will begin inspecting Chhath ghats across its jurisdiction from Monday to identify shortcomings and ensure that essential facilities are in place ahead of the upcoming festival.

The instructions were issued by Municipal Commissioner Sushant Gaurav during a review meeting with nodal officers of the corporation’s six zonal offices on Saturday, October 24. The meeting focused on improving civic services, addressing public grievances and strengthening preparations for Chhath Puja.

The RMC operates six zonal offices in addition to its headquarters to make municipal services more accessible to residents and ensure the timely resolution of complaints.

During the meeting, Gaurav directed municipal managers in all zones to organise ward-level camps in coordination with the respective ward councillors. The camps will inform residents about services available at zonal offices and collect public feedback to help officials prepare proposals based on local needs.

He also instructed officials to install proper signboards to help residents locate zonal offices, deploy field staff in the wards concerned and expedite the disposal of complaints. The distribution of municipal resources and machinery across the zones was also reviewed, with directions to ensure that local civic works are completed without unnecessary delays.

Focus on Cleanliness, Electricity and Safety at Chhath Ghats

As part of the festival preparations, teams from all six zones will inspect Chhath ghats from Monday. The inspections will focus on cleanliness, electricity supply, the availability of stone dust and slabs, and other essential facilities required by devotees.

Officials have been directed to identify deficiencies during the visits and take prompt corrective measures to ensure that the ghats are ready for the festival.

The Municipal Commissioner also instructed teams to act immediately if they find drain water flowing into any water body used for Chhath rituals. Officials must take the necessary steps to divert the flow and help maintain a clean and safe environment for devotees and worshippers.

The inspections are intended to identify problems in advance and enable the civic body to address them before large numbers of devotees gather at the ghats for the festival.
