The Ramgarh Police have launched a new digital initiative aimed at improving the quality and speed of criminal investigations and ensuring greater accountability among investigating and supervisory officers.
The platform, called PRISM (Police Review of Investigation Status & Monitoring), was formally launched on August 20, 2026, by Ramgarh Superintendent of Police Mukesh Kumar Lunayat. The initiative has been designed to provide a structured digital system for monitoring criminal cases from the registration of an FIR to the submission of the final report or chargesheet.
The initiative carries the tagline, “From FIR to Final Report - Under One Prism.”
Every stage of investigation to be monitored
Through PRISM, important stages of an investigation will be digitally recorded and reviewed. These include details of the FIR, the investigating officer, the nature of the case, supervisory reports, progress reports, evidence collection, the status of accused persons, and findings from scientific and technical investigations.
The platform will also track whether the investigation is progressing within the prescribed legal timelines of 60 or 90 days and whether the final report or chargesheet has been submitted.
Senior officers will be able to use the system to regularly review the progress of individual cases. The Superintendent of Police, Sub-Divisional Police Officers, Police Inspectors and Station House Officers will be able to identify pending investigative tasks and issue directions to investigating officers for timely action.
This is expected to reduce unnecessary delays and make it easier to establish responsibility at different levels of the investigation process.
Focus on 60- and 90-day cases
A major objective of PRISM is to improve the timely disposal of cases that are subject to the prescribed 60-day and 90-day legal timelines. The Ramgarh Police also intend to use the platform to improve the district's performance on the NCLI (New Criminal Laws Implementation) Portal.
The system includes a digital reminder and monitoring mechanism. It will alert authorities as important deadlines approach, allowing pending investigative actions to be identified and completed before the statutory time limit expires.
This could be particularly useful for cases where delays occur because of pending evidence collection, reports, arrests, supervision or other procedural requirements.
Data-based review of investigations
Speaking at the launch, SP Mukesh Kumar Lunayat said PRISM would provide an integrated system for monitoring the progress of cases from the FIR stage through the final report. He said regular, data-based reviews would be used to ensure timely disposal of cases within the 60- and 90-day legal periods and to improve the district's performance on the NCLI Portal.
The platform is also intended to ensure that no case remains pending unnecessarily and that investigating and supervisory officers remain accountable for completing assigned tasks within the required time frame.
The Ramgarh Police said the initiative is part of its broader effort to use technology to strengthen citizen-centric, transparent and accountable policing. By combining digital monitoring, deadline reminders and regular supervisory reviews, PRISM is expected to help improve investigation quality while making the criminal justice process more efficient and time-bound.
