The traffic police have intensified their enforcement drive across Ranchi, with vehicle checks being conducted at several locations and motorists facing action for violating traffic rules. The crackdown has resulted in more than 61,000 challans being issued in the first 20 days of August.

On August 20 alone, traffic police issued challans to 3,199 vehicles. Riding two-wheelers without helmets accounted for the highest number of violations, with 1,441 motorists penalised. Parking violations, including parking at unauthorised places and no-parking zones, followed closely, with 1,228 challans issued.

The enforcement drive also covered several other violations. Police issued 177 challans for over-speeding, 155 for jumping red lights, 28 for entering no-entry zones and 26 for driving on the wrong side of the road.

Action was also taken against motorists for violations related to pillion riders, driving without a licence and carrying more passengers than permitted. Eighteen challans each were issued for violations involving pillion riders and driving without a valid licence, while 16 vehicles were penalised for carrying excess passengers.

August Challans Cross 61,000

According to traffic police data, a total of 61,908 vehicles had been challaned in Ranchi by August 20. This means the number of enforcement actions crossed the 60,000 mark within just three weeks of the month.

The pace of enforcement is significant when compared with July, when more than one lakh vehicles were reportedly penalised during the entire month. With 10 more days still remaining in August, the number of challans is expected to rise further.

Focus on Awareness Alongside Enforcement

The traffic police campaign is not limited to issuing challans. Authorities are also focusing on creating awareness among motorists at major intersections across the city.

Announcements through loudspeakers are being used to remind commuters about basic traffic safety measures, including wearing helmets and seat belts, obeying traffic signals and avoiding parking in no-parking zones.

The intensified enforcement comes as the city continues to deal with traffic violations at busy roads and intersections. While the rising number of challans reflects stricter policing, sustained awareness and compliance by motorists will be crucial to improving road safety and reducing violations in Ranchi.
