Security forces have achieved a significant breakthrough in the ongoing campaign against Left-Wing Extremism in Jharkhand with the arrest of four alleged members of the Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP) in Gumla district. The arrested men include JJMP sub-zonal commander Ramdev Lohra alias Ramdev Oraon, who was carrying a reward of Rs 5 lakh on his arrest.
The operation was launched after police received specific intelligence about the movement of Ramdev Lohra and other members of his squad in the Dumri police station area. Acting on the information, a special team of police and security personnel was formed and a search operation was conducted around Akashi and Jairagi villages.
According to the police, the group was suspected of moving through the area with plans to carry out a major criminal or extremist activity. During the operation, security personnel surrounded the suspected area and arrested Ramdev Lohra along with three other alleged active members of the outfit.
The arrested persons have been identified as Ramdev Lohra, son of Balmukund Lohra, a resident of Bingra village under Latehar police station; Arvind Nayak, son of Sahdev Nayak, from Kone village in Latehar, who is identified as an area commander; Muneshwar Singh, son of Sohrai Singh, from Kita Makka village under Jobang police station in Lohardaga; and Jitendra Lohra, a resident of Ujra village under Dumri police station in Gumla, who was allegedly an active member.
Police said a substantial cache of weapons and communication equipment was recovered from the arrested men. The seizure includes an AK-56 rifle with a magazine, an SLR rifle, a semi-automatic rifle, a walkie-talkie and eight mobile phones, besides other items.
The arrest of a senior JJMP functionary carrying a Rs 5 lakh reward is being viewed as an important development for security forces operating in the region. The recovery of multiple firearms and communication devices is also expected to help investigators assess the group's activities, its network and possible plans in the area.
Further investigation is underway to establish the role of the arrested persons in previous extremist incidents and to determine whether other members of the group were involved in the activities.
