

Deoghar: A sensational double murder has shocked Heth Nawadih village under Mahapur Panchayat in Sonaraytharhi police station area of Deoghar district. Late on Monday night, unidentified assailants allegedly entered a house and brutally murdered 38-year-old Rubeda Bibi and her 12-year-old son, Chhotu, by slitting their throats with a sharp-edged weapon. The incident came to light on Tuesday morning, triggering panic in the village as a large number of residents gathered at the scene.
Soon after receiving information, Sonaraytharhi police reached the spot, took the bodies into custody and launched an investigation. Family members alleged that both victims were killed with an axe by slitting their throats. The police secured the crime scene and began collecting evidence.
The incident sparked anger among villagers, who questioned the police's functioning and demanded that the Superintendent of Police visit the spot. Responding to the demand, Superintendent of Police Praveen Pushkar, accompanied by a forensic team, inspected the crime scene on Tuesday morning. The team collected forensic evidence and questioned local residents. Police said all possible angles are being examined.
The gruesome incident has also revived memories of a previous murder in the same family. According to family members, Rubeda Bibi's husband, Riaz Ahmad, was hacked to death with an axe on July 15, 2022. They alleged that some of the accused named in that case have still not been arrested despite the passage of four years. The family claimed that the same household has once again been targeted in the latest double murder.Police are continuing their investigation to ascertain the motive behind the killings and identify those responsible. Security has been tightened in the village as a precaution in view of the prevailing tension.
