Jamshedpur: In a significant development in the sensational stabbing case outside the Double Down (DD) Club, a night bar in Bistupur, the East Singhbhum police have suspended three personnel for alleged negligence in the discharge of their duties, even as the victim, Himanshu Singh, succumbed to his injuries, triggering widespread outrage and fresh protests across the city.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Piyush Pandey ordered the immediate suspension of Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Ratan Kumar Das, ASI Rajesh Kumar Ranjan and constable Manoj Kumar, all of whom were part of the patrol team that responded to the incident on Saturday night.
According to preliminary findings, the three policemen allegedly failed to perform their responsibilities adequately while handling the situation. The disciplinary action has been taken to ensure an impartial and transparent investigation into the incident.
The SSP said the police department is treating the case with the utmost seriousness and is committed to conducting a fair, unbiased and professional probe.
He asserted that the department has a zero-tolerance policy towards negligence and will not hesitate to act whenever questions arise regarding police functioning.
The SSP further stated that if the ongoing inquiry establishes the involvement or dereliction of duty by any other police personnel, stringent departmental action will be initiated in accordance with established rules.
He reiterated that accountability remains the cornerstone of policing and that no lapse, irrespective of rank, would be overlooked.
The suspensions are being viewed as a strong message from the district police leadership that negligence in sensitive criminal cases will invite immediate consequences.
Officials said further departmental and legal action would be decided after the inquiry report is submitted.
The case took a tragic turn on Monday evening when Himanshu Singh, who had sustained grievous injuries in the brutal stabbing outside the night bar, died during treatment at Tata Main Hospital (TMH).
His death sparked anger among family members, relatives and local residents, who staged a late-night blockade at the Bistupur roundabout demanding swift justice.
The protesters called for the immediate arrest of all those involved in the attack and sought exemplary punishment for the accused.
The demonstration continued for several hours before police officials intervened and assured the family that strict action would be taken against everyone found responsible.
Meanwhile, Bistupur police have registered an FIR against 10 named accused, including BJP leader and bar operator Neeraj Singh, in connection with the sensational murder case. The complaint was lodged by Arvind Singh, a resident of Hari Om Nagar in Adityapur.
