Heavy Showers to Revive Monsoon Across Jharkhand as IMD Issues Multi-Day Weather Alert

Jamshedpur: After weeks of below-normal rainfall, Jharkhand is set to witness an active spell of monsoon weather, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds across large parts of the state over the next four days.

According to the latest weather bulletin, isolated heavy rainfall is likely on June 30 over northeastern Jharkhand, including Jamtara, besides the central districts of Bokaro, Dhanbad, Lohardaga, Gumla, Ramgarh, Ranchi and Khunti, along with Simdega in the southern region.

The IMD has also warned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph at isolated places across the state. On July 1, heavy rainfall is expected over almost the entire state, barring the northwestern districts and East Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharsawan.

Thunderstorm and lightning activity, coupled with strong surface winds, is likely to persist on July 2 and July 3, keeping weather conditions unsettled.
The expected increase in rainfall is being driven by a combination of favourable meteorological systems.

The seasonal monsoon trough at mean sea level currently stretches from Punjab to Bihar through Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, while an east-west trough extends from eastern Uttar Pradesh to Manipur via Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and Assam. In addition, troughs in the middle and upper tropospheric westerlies are enhancing moisture inflow and atmospheric instability, creating ideal conditions for widespread rainfall over eastern India.

The weather office has said that these systems are conducive to the further advance of the southwest monsoon into the remaining parts of Jharkhand over the next two days, bringing more widespread and sustained rainfall across the state.

Despite the favourable forecast, Jharkhand continues to reel under a severe rainfall deficit. Against the seasonal normal of 181.4 mm, the state has received only 71.1 mm of rainfall so far, registering a 61 per cent deficit.

The prolonged dry spell has delayed agricultural operations in several districts, with farmers anxiously awaiting consistent rains to begin paddy transplantation and replenish reservoirs.

Residents, too, are hoping the approaching spell signals the arrival of a vigorous monsoon. "The weather has been hot and humid, but the rains have remained irregular. A sustained spell of monsoon showers will not only cool temperatures but also provide much-needed relief to farmers and improve water availability," said Sanjay Mishra, a resident of Jamshedpur.

Weathermen advised residents to remain vigilant during thunderstorm activity, avoid venturing outdoors during lightning, refrain from taking shelter under isolated trees, and exercise caution while travelling in heavy rain and strong winds.

IMD officials have urged people to keep track of official weather updates as monsoon activity intensifies across Jharkhand.
