
Deoghar: In a major breakthrough against the illegal narcotics trade, Jasidih Police arrested six people allegedly involved in the sale and distribution of brown sugar during a raid conducted near Jasidih Railway Station. The operation was carried out in an open field behind Rujhya Dharamshala, where the accused were reportedly preparing for a drug transaction.Addressing a press conference on Thursday, Superintendent of Police Praveen Pushkar said that acting on a tip-off, police received information that a group of men and women was in contact with drug dealers and planning to buy and sell narcotic substances. Following verification of the information, a special raiding team was constituted under the leadership of Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Sadar) Kuldeep Kumar.
During the raid, police detained six suspects and recovered 76.19 grams of brown sugar concealed in white plastic packets and tobacco pouches. Officers also seized ?63,000 in cash and six mobile phones, including keypad and multimedia handsets.
Preliminary investigation revealed that two of the arrested individuals, Gul Mohammad alias Chacha and Ismail Ansari alias Raju Khan, allegedly procured brown sugar through railway routes and other channels before supplying it across various parts of Deoghar district.The arrested accused have been identified as Gul Mohammad alias Chacha (62), a resident of Sugridih under Karmatand Police Station in Jamtara district; Ravi Jha of Barmasia under Deoghar Town Police Station; Bablu Choudhary and Ajay Kumar Mahta of Singhwa; Khushboo Devi of Jasidih Police Station area; and Ismail Ansari alias Raju Khan of Birangadiya under Karon Police Station area.Police have registered Jasidih Police Station Case No. 198/2026 and initiated legal proceedings against all six accused under various provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The accused are being sent to judicial custody.Investigations also revealed that the prime accused, Gul Mohammad alias Chacha, has a criminal history, with previous cases registered against him under charges related to dacoity, the Arms Act, and the NDPS Act. Ajay Kumar Mahta was also found to have a criminal case registered against him at Deoghar Town Police Station.The raid was conducted by a team comprising SDPO Kuldeep Kumar, Jasidih Police Station in-charge Deepak Kumar, Uday Kumar Singh, Amar Kumar, Ramanuj Singh, Sandeep Krishna, Priyaranjan Kumar, Samant Kumar, Anish Kumar Singh, along with personnel from Jasidih Police Station and the technical branch.
