
Jamshedpur: A long-standing rivalry allegedly turned violent in Ramjanam Nagar’s Bihari Basti under Kadma police station area of Jamshedpur on Thursday, triggering panic after reports of firing in the locality.According to a written complaint lodged by local resident Samir Nag at Kadma police station, he was standing near a public toilet beneath the Marine Drive highway along with his friends Sunny Gupta and Vikas Tanti when six youths arrived on two motorcycles. The complainant alleged that the group confronted them over an old dispute, abused them and soon launched a physical assault.
Samir claimed that the attackers hurled bricks and stones, causing a serious head injury to him, while his two companions also sustained injuries in the attack. The sudden violence created chaos in the area, forcing nearby residents to flee for safety.
The complaint further alleges that after the assault, a youth identified as Aasu Karmakar opened fire with the intention to kill, allegedly firing three rounds. No one was injured in the firing. Samir and his friends reportedly managed to escape from the spot and took shelter at a safe location.
The incident has left residents of the locality shaken. Acting on the complaint, Kadma police have launched an investigation and are working to identify and trace the accused. Police officials said appropriate legal action will be taken after completion of the inquiry.
