
Deoghar Town police achieved a major breakthrough in its crackdown against the illegal drug trade by arresting a youth with brown sugar and seizing cash worth ?1.45 lakh. Police claimed that the recovered money was linked to narcotics trafficking. The accused already has several criminal cases registered against him. The information was shared by SDPO Sadar Kuldeep Kumar during a press briefing on Tuesday.
According to police sources, a special drive against illegal drug peddlers is being carried out across the district on the instructions of the Superintendent of Police. As part of the campaign, the team led by SDPO Kuldeep Kumar received a secret tip-off around 10 pm on Sunday that Bunty Mahto, a resident of Gandhi Nagar in Barmasia, was allegedly selling brown sugar from his house in the Bichkoria area.Acting swiftly on the information, the police team conducted a raid at the house. During the search, officers recovered 11 packets of brown sugar from the pocket of the accused. Police also seized ?1.45 lakh in cash from the spot, following which Bunty Mahto (25) was arrested.Police said that some of his associates are also suspected to be involved in the illegal trade. The names of Rahul Mahto alias Rahul Chaudhary and Vishal Mahto alias DJ have surfaced during the investigation. Raids are underway to arrest them.According to police records, Bunty Mahto has a long criminal history. Several cases related to assault, theft, attempted murder, extortion, dowry harassment and violations under the NDPS Act have already been registered against him at Deoghar Town police station. He was also booked under the NDPS Act in both 2024 and 2026.The raid was carried out by a team comprising SDPO Kuldeep Kumar, Town Police Station in-charge Mukesh Kumar, SI Rajendra Prasad, SI Chandrashekhar Rajak, SI Suraj Kumar, SI Sumant Prasad, reserve guards and technical branch personnel.
