Ranchi : Ahead of Bakrid celebrations, a delegation from the Vishva Hindu Parishad met Santosh Kumar Gangwar and submitted a memorandum demanding strict enforcement of the ‘Jharkhand Bovine Animal Slaughter Prohibition Act, 2005’.
In the memorandum, the delegation alleged that there was a possibility of illegal trafficking and slaughter of banned bovine animals in several parts of Jharkhand during the festival period. It stated that animals such as cows, bulls, calves, and camels could be targeted by smugglers and anti-social elements in violation of existing laws.
The memorandum highlighted that the Act prohibits the slaughter, transportation, and sale of meat of bovine animals in the state, and any violation is treated as a serious non-bailable offence. The delegation further stated that such incidents could disturb communal harmony and disrupt the law-and-order situation if not checked in time.
Seeking preventive measures, the delegation urged the administration to enhance security arrangements in sensitive locations, conduct strict vehicle inspections at district and interstate borders, identify and shut down illegal slaughterhouses, and take immediate legal action against offenders.
Among those present in the delegation were Dr Birendra Sahu, Sunil Gupta, Mithileshwar Mishra, Ranganath Mahto, and Kailash Kesari.
