
Deoghar,In a major action against cyber crime, Deoghar Police arrested six cyber fraudsters involved in online scams by posing as customer care representatives of Flipkart, Amazon, PhonePe and Airtel Payment Bank. The operation was carried out on the instructions of SP Praveen Pushkar under the supervision of SDPO Raja Kumar Mitra.Police had received confidential information that several youths were cheating innocent citizens by impersonating customer care executives and using fake mobile numbers. The accused were also allegedly targeting victims in the name of PM Kisan Yojana benefits and loan approvals.Acting on the tip-off, teams from Cyber Police Station and Pathrol OP conducted raids and arrested six accused. During the preliminary examination of the seized mobile phones and SIM cards, police found evidence linked to cyber fraud activities. A total of 11 mobile phones, 12 SIM cards and one cloned SIM were recovered during the operation.Investigators revealed that the gang used to lure victims with cashback offers while pretending to be Google Pay, PhonePe and PayTM customer care officials. Victims were allegedly asked to create PhonePe gift cards, which were later redeemed by the accused to siphon money. Some accused also posed as Airtel Payment Bank officials and trapped consumers by claiming that their cards had been blocked. They then cheated victims on the pretext of reactivating the cards through the Airtel Thanks App.
The arrested accused have been identified as 33-year-old Bishu Das, 26-year-old Mithun Das, 26-year-old Chandan Das, 23-year-old Kailash Das, 22-year-old Kundan Kumar Das and 26-year-old Ajit Kumar Das, all residents of different areas of Deoghar district.Police said Bishu Das, Mithun Das and Chandan Das were already named in previous cyber crime cases registered at Deoghar Cyber Police Station. Further investigation is underway to trace other members of the network and identify additional victims linked to the gang.
