Police recover 102 grams of brown sugar, cash, vehicles and mobile phones during late-night raid

Deoghar: Police achieved a major breakthrough against drug trafficking after arresting four persons, including two alleged brown sugar suppliers from West Bengal, during a raid conducted in the Mohanpur police station area. Police recovered 102.14 grams of brown sugar, cash worth Rs 1.49 lakh, five mobile phones, one car and one motorcycle from the accused.Addressing a press conference on Sunday, SP Praveen Pushkar said information was received around 12:15 am that brown sugar suppliers from Bengal had entered the Mohanpur area. The information also suggested that a car and a motorcycle were parked along the kaccha road leading towards Bada Jharna-Khargadiha. Following the input, a special team was formed under the leadership of SDPO Ashok Kumar Singh and a raid was conducted.During the operation, police arrested Sheikh Istajul and Mir Samad, residents of Birbhum district in West Bengal, who had arrived in a black Hyundai i10 car. Two local youths, Rohit Kumar and Niraj Kumar Mahta, had allegedly reached the spot on a motorcycle to purchase brown sugar. Police seized two packets of brown sugar, cash and other materials from their possession.SP Praveen Pushkar said preliminary investigation revealed that the accused were allegedly involved in supplying brown sugar from the Dubrajpur area of Birbhum district to different parts of Jharkhand, Bihar and West Bengal. The narcotics were later packed into small packets and sold in local markets.The SP further stated that police have also identified several drug consumers linked to the network during the investigation. Raids are underway to apprehend them and arrests are expected soon.The arrested accused have been identified as Sheikh Istajul, 25, son of Sheikh Nazrul, resident of Khoch Mohammadpur under Dubrajpur police station in Birbhum district, West Bengal; Mir Samad, 23, son of Mir Jamir, resident of Dhagram under Dubrajpur police station in Birbhum district, West Bengal; Rohit Kumar, 26, son of Satyanarayan Mandal, resident of Latasare under Mohanpur police station; and Niraj Kumar Mahta, 30, son of Bablu Mahta, resident of Barmasia under Nagar police station area in Deoghar district.Recovered items include 102.14 grams of brown sugar, Rs 1,49,300 in cash, one Hyundai i10 car, one motorcycle and five mobile phones.The raid team included SDPO Ashok Kumar Singh, Mohanpur police station in-charge Salo Hembrom, Rikhia police station in-charge Prabhat Kumar, Technical Branch in-charge Sandeep Krishna, Baba Mandir police station officer Priyaranjan Kumar and several other police personnel from Mohanpur police station and the technical branch.
