
Ranchi: Former minister Alamgir Alam, who is currently in jail, has suffered a major setback from the Jharkhand High Court. The court has dismissed his petition in the tender commission scam case. Alam had challenged the PMLA court’s decision, which rejected his discharge plea and proceeded to frame charges against him. The case is currently at the stage of recording witness statements.
Earlier, on May 6, 2024, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) carried out major raids in connection with the case. Searches were conducted at the premises of several engineers, contractors, and also at the locations linked to Alamgir Alam’s OSD Sanjeev Lal and his associate Jahangir Alam. During the raids, around ?32.2 crore in cash was recovered from Jahangir Alam’s residence.
Additionally, ?10.5 lakh was recovered from Sanjeev Lal’s residence and ?2.3 lakh from his office in the secretariat. Following these recoveries, the investigation reached former minister Alamgir Alam. He was summoned by the ED on May 14 and 15, 2024, for questioning and was subsequently arrested on May 15. Since then, he has been in judicial custody.
