
Jamshedpur: The city’s legal community was plunged into grief on Saturday following the passing of senior advocate Pratap Narayan Gope, fondly known as P.N. Gope, at the age of 85. He breathed his last at a hospital in Baridih, bringing to a close an illustrious legal career that spanned nearly six decades. A distinguished figure in the legal fraternity, Gope was widely admired for his profound expertise in both criminal and civil law.
His tenure as a Public Prosecutor, which extended over 13 years, was marked by unwavering integrity, meticulous preparation, and a steadfast commitment to the cause of justice. According to family members, his last rites will be performed at 11 AM on Sunday at the Beldih Cemetery near the Circuit House area in Bistupur.
Beyond the courtroom, Gope was deeply invested in social service. He worked tirelessly for the upliftment of Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes, and economically disadvantaged communities, actively associating himself with organisations such as Birsa Seva Dal.
He is survived by his daughter-in-law and grandson. His wife and two sons had predeceased him. Prominent members of the legal fraternity, including representatives of the Jharkhand Bar Council and the Jamshedpur Bar Association, expressed profound sorrow at his demise. They remembered him not only as a lawyer of exceptional calibre but also as a compassionate individual whose contributions to society will be cherished for years to come.
