Jamshedpur: In a serious security incident from neighbouring West Singhbhum district, an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast triggered by Maoist insurgents shook the dense stretches of the Saranda Forest during an ongoing search operation. A jawan of the Central Reserve Police Force ( CRPF ) sustained injuries in the explosion and was immediately airlifted to Ranchi for advanced medical treatment.
According to reports, security forces were conducting an intensive anti-Naxal operation in the Saranda region when the team inadvertently moved over an IED planted along the route. The explosion occurred as the personnel advanced deeper into the forest, underscoring the persistent threat posed by hidden explosives in the insurgency-affected belt.
Sources indicate that Maoist operatives have been strategically planting IEDs at multiple locations across the forest to target security forces engaged in combing operations. Despite recent operational successes by forces in the region, such tactics continue to pose grave risks to personnel on the ground.
Notably, Saranda Asia’s largest sal forest and a historically sensitive Maoist corridor—has long remained a focal point of counter-insurgency efforts. Spread across a vast mineral-rich terrain, the forest’s challenging topography and dense cover often provide tactical advantage to insurgent groups, making operations complex and high-risk.
Security agencies have intensified vigilance in the aftermath of the blast, with further sanitisation drives and area domination exercises underway to neutralise threats and ensure safe movement of forces in the region.
