Jamshedpur: The suspense surrounding the election for the post of Deputy Mayor in Mango Municipal Corporation ended on Tuesday, with Rahul Singh Kashyap emerging victorious by a clear margin.
The election process, held at the Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) office in Jamshedpur, witnessed a smooth and decisive outcome as Kashyap secured a majority of votes among the elected ward members.
In a contest marked by keen political interest, all 34 ward councillors exercised their franchise, and notably, no vote was declared invalid.
Rahul Singh Kashyap clinched 19 votes, comfortably surpassing the majority mark and defeating his closest rival, Ghulam Mustafa Raja, who managed to secure 9 votes.
Another contender, Momita Chatterjee, received 6 votes.
Kashyap’s victory margin stood at 10 votes over Raja, underlining a strong consolidation of support in his favour.
The election was contested exclusively by sitting ward members, as per municipal norms. Kashyap, a resident of Mango’s Repeat Colony, represents Ward No. 5.
His nearest rival, Ghulam Mustafa Raja, is a councillor from Ward No. 26, while Momita Chatterjee represents Ward No. 4.
Political backing played a crucial role in shaping the outcome. Rahul Singh Kashyap enjoyed the support of leaders from the BJP, which significantly bolstered his prospects.
Moreover, he is believed to have received the backing and goodwill of Mango Mayor Sudha Gupta and former minister Banna Gupta, both influential figures in the region’s political landscape.
Following the conclusion of the voting process, the Returning Officer formally declared the results. The election marked a key development in the functioning of the Mango Municipal Corporation, setting the stage for administrative continuity and governance. Earlier, Sudha Gupta had been administered the oath as Mayor, and all 34 elected ward members, including Rahul Singh Kashyap, were sworn in as part of the official proceedings.
