Ranchi: Addressing the Assembly during the Budget Session, Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Friday said the Jharkhand government will enact a comprehensive organ donation law aimed at improving access to life-saving transplants.
He pointed out that while central laws and policies are already in place, their effectiveness on the ground remains limited. The state government, he said, will focus on tightening legal provisions and spreading awareness among the public to ensure quicker and more transparent organ donation processes.
Referring to a recent case involving the organ donation of a 10-month-old child from Kerala, Soren said such actions reflect the true spirit of humanity. He added that saving lives rises above all social and religious divisions.
The Chief Minister reiterated that the proposed legislation is part of the state’s broader development roadmap for 2050. He also took a dig at the opposition, noting that no amendments were moved to the Governor’s address during this Budget Session—a first in Jharkhand’s history.
During his speech, BJP legislators walked out of the House. Soren said his government is committed to rectifying past policy shortcomings and highlighted improvements in social security, education and healthcare despite limited resources.
On administrative matters, he said the government is seriously examining the issue of age limits for the Jharkhand Public Service Commission examinations. Earlier in the day, the Jharkhand High Court granted interim relief to 264 candidates in a related case.
