HC Rejects CBI Inquiry in JSSC-CGL Leak Case, Directs Immediate Publication of Results

Ranchi: The Jharkhand High Court has refused to order a CBI investigation into the alleged paper leak in the JSSC-CGL examination, clearing the path for the long-awaited results to be released.

A bench of Chief Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan and Justice Rajesh Shankar announced the ruling on Wednesday, nearly a month after reserving the verdict. The court instructed the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission to publish the pending results at the earliest.

Representing the state government, Advocate General Rajiv Ranjan and Advocate Piyush Chitresh defended the integrity of the process, while Advocate Sanjay Piparwal appeared for the Commission. Senior advocates Ajit Kumar Sinha and Ajit Kumar represented the petitioners.

The exam, conducted on September 21–22, 2024, across 823 centres, aimed to fill over 2,000 government vacancies. Out of 3,04,769 candidates, 2,145 were shortlisted on December 5, 2024. The results were later withheld following a PIL alleging that the exam was marred by a question paper leak.

The High Court then issued an interim stay on December 17, 2024. During subsequent hearings, the state informed the court that the CID investigation found no proof of a leak. The Commission also denied any lapse.

While the petitioners insisted that only a CBI probe could reveal the truth, the bench ruled that the evidence presented did not justify transferring the case to the central agency.

The dismissal of the plea and direction to publish results has brought significant relief to lakhs of candidates waiting for the next steps of the recruitment process.
