Online Fake Trading App Busted, 19-Year-Old Arrested in Jharkhand

Ranchi – Jharkhand’s Crime Investigation Department (CID) has cracked a major online fraud involving a fake trading app named “Cantillon,” which duped investors across India of crores of rupees. The Cyber Crime Cell arrested 19-year-old Yashvardhan Kumar from Deoghar on Friday.

Originally from Gaya, Bihar, Kumar allegedly ran the scam by luring victims via WhatsApp and promising high returns. Investors were shown fake profits on the app before losing access to their money. The case came to light after a victim complained of being cheated out of Rs 44 lakh on August 23.

During the probe, the CID recovered Kumar’s mobile phone, two SIM cards, incriminating chats, and bank details. So far, 46 complaints have been registered against him on the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal from 18 states and UTs, including Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, and Bihar.

CID officials said Kumar is likely just one part of a larger syndicate and are working to trace the masterminds behind the organised cybercrime network.
